Bridport Festival Tea Room

When shopping and food tasting all become a little too much, the services of the essential Tea Room will be a much-needed feature of the day.  You will be able to kick back and relax with a large cup of tea and a slice of homemade cake made by the Colmers WI or a delicious scone supplied by West Bay Tea Rooms with clotted cream from Hangers Dairy and jam from Cherry Tree Preserves.   A new item on the menu this year will be hot buttered crumpets with marmite or chocolate spread, washed down with a large cup of tea, of course!

Discount will be given to people bringing their own reusable cup – which we strongly recommend you put towards buying another slice of cake – you see, you can have your cake and eat it too!

Bridport Round Table

A small selection of local beers and ciders will be available from the Bridport Round Table’s Beer Gazebo.   To eliminate the use of  plastic on-site, everyone is asked to bring their own drinking vessels.   There will be a small number of glasses to buy on the day.

Tickets will be on sale throughout the day at a price of £1 each.   Thanks to Julia Baynes our ‘Raffle Queen’ we have a great choice of amazing prizes to be won.   All of which have been kindly donated by  local businesses in their support for the Bridport Food Festival.  The raffle will be drawn at 4pm.  All proceeds will go back into running the Bridport Local Food Group.

kindly organised by local musician Chris Deacon

BRIDPORT FOOD MATTERS   The team will be running an information hub at the Market on  Bridport’s many food-related initiatives.   It is the place to talk about access to healthy food, food security, the local economy and climate change, and share ideas about what is already going on and what more we can do about it as a community.   During the day farmers and producers will share their knowledge and sustainable living.

  • 12:30 Symondsbury Estate will be talking about their plans for regenerative farming, woodland management and the market garden, as well as discuss how to “wind the clock right back” in terms of production while making it not only enjoyable but also profitable as a business.

  • 13:30 Katkin and Ipar of Vital Roots kitchen garden in Netherbury will share their knowledge about dealing with produce gluts through making fermented food, plus food for free through foraging.

  • 14:30 Nick from Chideock Champignons, a small-scale gourmet mushroom farm, will talk about the wonders of fungi and the role their product plays in breaking down organic materials into soil and negating our carbon footprint

PLASTIC FREE BRIDPORT will be promoting the idea that our communities are safer and healthier without single use plastic. They will have literature to hand out and can discuss some of the more detailed aspects about whether “replacement” plastics are useful or just complicate the business of waste reduction.  Also, on their agenda will be their upcoming “Plastic Free Picnic” on July 4th which proposes that participants bring no single use plastic and leave no waste (not even in the bins).

The Bridport Local Food Group is an active member of the Town’s Mayor’s campaign to  achieve plastic free status for Bridport, and as such we ask everyone to consider carefully how they use single-use plastic and request that all plastic is disposed of correctly.   If you are not sure please visit the Plastic Free Bridport stand and ask!

Visitors to the market are asked to bring their own reusable cup, alternatively, the Bridport Town reusable cup will be on sale.

Jurassic Feast is a new Silver Sponsor of the Festival  They will be promoting their new App featuring the best food and drink companies across the Jurassic Coast as part of a digital loyalty scheme.
