Bridport Mind Fest Needs You!
A Festival for all ages
to celebrate the power of the mind,
be aware of its vulnerability and how to heal it.
Make it happen in Bridport
From Thursday 5th – Tuesday 10th October
We believe it’s unique in England.
Celebrate. Educate. Communicate. Participate.
World Mental Health Day is on 10th October each year. To mark the occasion, we’re hosting an all age family festival to raise awareness. Plans are underway for Bridport Mind Fest to take place 5th – 10th October 2017. The festival aims to get the community celebrating the mind, educating each other, and participating together.
To make Mind Fest happen, we need funding,
and we need you to get involved!
The problem
One in four adults and one in ten children are likely to have a mental health problem in any given year. This has a profound impact on the lives of tens of millions of people in the UK, affecting relationships, work, or a person’s ability just to get through the day. The population of Bridport is 13,000 -That’s 3,250 people who may be suffering from a mental health problem….No-one should suffer alone, and no-one should feel ashamed.
Sadly, an ill-informed and damaging attitude around mental health still exists, which can make it difficult to talk about, and difficult for some to seek help. It is estimated that only about a quarter of people with a mental health problem in the UK receive on-going treatment, leaving the majority of people grappling with mental health issues on their own, or dependent on the informal support of family, friends or colleagues.
How can we challenge this?
We want to make Bridport a community that looks out for one another, that is well informed and unashamed to talk about mental health. We are confronting this stigma and providing a place of support through hosting a 6 day event – Bridport Mind Fest.
We want Mind Fest to be an event for all the family and every age group! We want to raise awareness of mental health, giving local people a chance to express themselves with engaging workshops, and to enjoy film screenings, discussion, guest speakers, performances, stand-up comedy, yoga, and more!
