BRIDPORT LOCAL FOOD GROUP LAUNCH BRIDPORT COMMUNITY COOKING KIT

The Bridport Community Cooking kit is a new project by the Bridport Local Food Group, who organise and run the Bridport Food Festival among other thing.  The aim is to get more adults and children in the Bridport area cooking.   The Group believe that cooking is a core life skill and want to give everyone the opportunity to cook and enjoy good food.  The Bridport Community Cooking consists of essential cooking equipment that other community groups can borrow for free to give demonstrations and hands-on cookery sessions.

Ines Cavill from the Bridport Local Food Group said:

‘Every June at the Food Festival we include a wide range of cooking experiences for all ages –  a chance to learn cooking skills from experts in the ‘make and take’ tent,  the new teen zone and not to mention the popular children’s marquee where we’ve enabled hundreds of local young people to create everything from smoothies to sushi.  After years of improvising with kitchen equipment from home and borrowing from other Food Group supporters, we thought how helpful it would be to have a dedicated cooking kit – not just for use by all the workshops led by the festival each summer, but also throughout the year by other community groups in and around Bridport.

With a generous grant from Dorset AONB we’ve been able to put together the new Bridport Community Cooking Kit – it’s got enough equipment for up to 30 so a whole school class can learn with it .  We’re looking forward to seeing it used by all kinds of local community groups….’

The Bridport Local Food Group will be launching the new Bridport Community Cookery Kit on Saturday 21^st October at Bucky Doo Square.   From 10 am to 1pm the team will be joined by Dom Brown, chef and owner of BearKat in Barack Street who has kindly agreed to demonstrate the use of the new Community Cooking Kit.   Dom will be making delicious soups using locally sourced pumpkins, squashes and hopefully Onion Jack’s Onions.  Pumpkin and Squashes will also be available to buy.
