Bridport Electric Palace

Presented by Jazz Jurassica – bringing live jazz to Bridport Electric Palace-

The Sound of Blue Note — the band — takes its name from a sound that shaped jazz history.

It’s a sound you’ll recognise straight away. Catchy, stylish and full of swing.

That sound comes from the legendary Blue Note Records. In the late 1950s and early ’60s, the label captured a style that still feels fresh today. Strong melodies. Clear rhythms. Space for musicians to stretch out and tell their own stories.

This show brings the two together. A band named after the sound, playing the music that defined it.

The repertoire draws on some of the great names of the label — Horace Silver, Art Blakey, Freddie Hubbard and Hank Mobley. Music that is direct, expressive and built to swing. It’s a chance to step back and enjoy a defining moment in jazz history.

Why does that original Blue Note sound still matter? Because it set a standard. It backed artists who shaped modern jazz. It valued originality as much as technique. And it created recordings that musicians still study and return to. That balance of discipline and freedom is now part of the language of jazz.

And it continues today. Blue Note still records new artists and new music. Musicians such as Robert Glasper, Gregory Porter and Norah Jones carry that legacy forward, blending new influences with the label’s roots in jazz, soul and groove.

The Sound of Blue Note will play all your favourite classics  alongside less familiar tunes from the label’s catalogue.

This is an uplifting performance of jazz, played with skill, verve and real enjoyment.

You don’t need a degree in jazzology.  Just come and listen to a slice of jazz history.
