Film: Saipan

Even if football isn’t your thing, don’t let this one put you off, it’s really much more about two very different personalities on a collision course than it is about the beautiful game. On the eve of the 2002 FIFA World Cup, Irish captain Roy Keane walked out on the squad following a spectacular falling out with manager Mick McCarthy at their training base on the island of Saipan. Steve Coogan plays McCarthy with quiet complexity, while Éanna Hardwicke is absolutely compelling as the fiery, driven Keane, a man who simply cannot compromise his standards, even when it costs him everything. It’s sharp, it’s funny in places, and it asks some genuinely interesting questions about ego, pride, leadership and what it means to care too much.

Doors open at 7pm, allowing time to grab a drink and snacks at the bar and get comfortable.
