Tickets are now on sale for The Seaside Boarding House Invites: Chris Bassett, taking place on Saturday, 28th June. This very special date marks the 10-year anniversaries of both The Seaside Boarding House and Portland, two much-loved institutions in British food and hospitality.
Founded by Mary-Lou Sturridge, The Seaside Boarding House has spent the past decade welcoming guests to its hotel, bar, and restaurant on Chesil Beach. Mary-Lou is also a founding member of the homelessness charity StreetSmart, and in honour of this joint milestone, £10 from every ticket sold will be donated to StreetSmart, supporting people experiencing homelessness across the UK.
The Invites series is a rolling programme of intimate chef residencies, bringing some of the UK’s most exciting talent to cook a feast for 60, framed by sea views.
June’s guest is Chris Bassett, Executive Chef of Portland and Clipstone, two of London’s most admired neighbourhood restaurants from the Woodhead Restaurant Group.
Since opening in 2015, Portland has quietly set a benchmark for modern British cooking, earning a Michelin star within its first year and consistently praised for its restrained elegance, finely tuned dishes, and deep respect for top-quality produce. While the menu is ever-changing, one dish has become something of a leitmotif over the past decade: the pithivier.
The debut game pithivier caused a stir in the early days and has never been far from the kitchen’s creative consciousness, appearing in both refined and indulgent forms. From XL “medieval wedding” versions for private diners to the delicate iteration in the restaurant, this dish exemplifies the balance of craft and comfort that defines Portland. For his dinner here, Chris will reinvent the pithivier as a chicken and venison sharing ‘pie,’ inviting conviviality to the proceedings on the coast.
Expect a seasonal, feasting-style menu that celebrates the bounty of early summer and the richness of the Dorset coast, interpreted through Chris’s thoughtful and produce-driven approach.
