Talk by Alison Webber: The Cloak of Conformity and the Corset of Expectation

Bridport Camera Club presents a fundraising event for ASCape, a charity working to support children and young adults on the autistic spectrum in Dorset.

To make the evening more accessible there is no visitors’ fee, but visitors are asked to consider making a donation. Visitors and club members are also asked to support odd socks day by dressing in an unusual manner for the evening and donating for the privilege.

As someone who is on the autism spectrum Alison tells the story of the relationship between her photography and autism, how her creativity was suffocated by efforts to conform, and how, by discarding the ‘cloak’ and the ‘corset’, she can express her true identity. The talk is illustrated with a liberal sprinkling of her own images.
