Loosening Up With Watercolour

The aim of this one-day workshop is to really get to understand and practice the three main elements of any good painting:  Drawing, Tone and Colour. Guided by artist Terry Whitworth, you will spend the morning working on a small scale using table top still-life set ups featuring simple objects and seasonal plants of your choice, producing line drawings, monochrome tonal studies and colour sketches and will also look at the popular technique of line and wash.

After lunch, you will spend the afternoon working on a larger still life arrangement, applying all the techniques and tips learnt during the morning and hopefully producing an attractive watercolour.

We ask you to bring any materials that you normally use including the items outlined below but part of the purpose of the day is to keep materials to a ‘comfortable minimum’ yet still be able to achieve worthwhile paintings and sketches.

You will need*:

• A selection of watercolour paints (tubes or pans)
• A small selection of watercolour brushes
• A couple of pens, preferably fine liners, black or sepia
• Pencils (maybe 2B and H)
• Water jar

* A small selection of equipment will be available on the day in case anything is forgotten
