Join us to discover some fresh, new and irresistible contributions to the flute-guitar repertoire from ‘the land of a thousand rhythms’. Classical guitarist Francisco Correa presents music for flute and guitar by composers from his native Colombia (and the Latin American continent), alongside his wife, British flautist and mezzo soprano Emily Andrews, including several works written especially for them. These pieces mix classical and Colombian folk styles, drawing heavily on the rhythms and dances of central Colombia, such as the Bambuco, the Pasillo and the Joropo, but using more complex harmonies than traditionally used in folk music. The resulting music is worthy of world recognition on the concert stage while remaining undeniably Colombian.
