Bird Migration Watch

03oct6:15 AM9:00 AMBird Migration Watch& Breakfast with Tom Brereton

Event Details

A fantastic opportunity to witness first hand one of the great experiences in wildlife watching – active bird migration. This exciting walk will be led by Tom Brereton a highly regarded and experienced ecological consultant and all-round nature enthusiast. Tom will be on hand to help you understand the migration, learn how to count the birds and identify them by their shape, flight and call.

Early November is the peak period for visible bird migration and it can produce some spectacular overhead movements involving thousands of birds. This may include Woodpigeons, Stock Doves, Skylarks, Chaffinches and Scandinavian thrushes – the supporting cast may also include Goldfinch, Meadow Pipit, Pied Wagtail and Reed Bunting. The large number of birds present in the sky can also attract birds of prey such as Peregrine Falcon, Kestrel, Merlin and even Goshawk – it should make for a fascinating morning … the sky is the limit!

After an early start in order to catch the morning flight at sunrise, we’ll return to The Old Pottery for hot bacon sandwiches and tea/coffee!
