The current line-up was created in 2020. Becki Luff (Celtic harp) has played at prestigious venues such as The Wigmore Hall and The Sage and has toured in Hong Kong. Jacqui Johnson comes from a classical background where she’s played as a solo cellist with top orchestras both in the UK and Australia, was a member of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and has toured in China and Europe. Jon (bouzouki, guitar, whistles, bodhran) founded Moonrakers 20 years ago and is a published composer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. Sarah Fell has run community choirs and has for 5 years been the lead vocalist with Moonrakers.

In addition to concerts Moonrakers each year run regular Folk Orchestra residential and day courses across the country. They are for intermediate instrumentalists who wish to develop skills in arranging and playing folk tunes and songs in an ensemble. Annual courses are held at Benslow Music, Halsway Manor and several festivals. Participants work through a number of tunes and songs, learning new arrangement ideas. Music (with chords, countermelody and bass) are sent out in advance along with a video of each tune played at medium pace for those who learn by ear. Above all, it’s a rare opportunity to play with a multi-instrumental and welcoming group.
