Description

The Magdalen Whitewash by Valerie Goodwin

‘When the last Magdalen Laundry in Dublin closed for admissions in 1996 the girls that had been incarcerated by their families since the 18th century- many thousands of girls-were still not known.

Only when land was being sold by a convent were some bodies found, and questions were finally asked.

This play ( written in 2002) covers the period from 1919 to 1929, when a child of one of the ‘Maggies’ tries to find answers.

We meet eight of the girls and learn their stories.

Music by Peter Burns and Barbie McClure,  and a new song specially written by Pete, makes this 20th Anniversary production of the award winning play ( with several of the original actors) all the more poignant.’

‘A harsh history, rendered with compassion’ Dallas Morning News

‘A powerful story, sincerely told’ Royal Court Theatre, London
