The Glasgow Girls
Jennifer Spiers MA
Wednesday 15 February 2017

The Glasgow Girls were a group of fabulously original, innovative and versatile designers and artists that included the well known sisters, Margaret and Frances MacDonald.

We will be looking at some of these artists’ works from jewellery, ceramics and metal work to embroidery, design and paintings in order to appreciate these amazing women’s creations in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Margaret MacDonald married Charles Rennie Mackintosh and together with her sister Frances and Charles’s friend Herbert MacNair, the group formed ‘The Four’, working in close association and were pioneers of the so-called Glasgow Style.  Margaret’s early work belongs to what became known as the ‘Spook School’ of Celtic impressionism.

Membership fees are £50 for individual and £85 for joint membership, including membership of the national organisation and its quarterly magazine.

Visitors are welcome at a cost of £7.50 per lecture
