What would you save if the museum was on fire?
Bridport Museum’s volunteers have displayed some special objects around Bridport for you to discover.
Everyone has a special thing. A family heirloom, your first Teddy Bear or perhaps a piece of jewellery. Anyone can see what it is, but why would you save that, and only that particular item from a fire?
The Museum Volunteers were asked this same question, with the twist that they could only choose something from the collection!
You can find the first Love My Object displays at Bridport Library, Bridport Leisure Centre and in the Museum from Tuesday 5th April.
Why not get involved by scanning the QR code and telling the Museum about the special object you’d save from a fire?
Alternatively, share a picture on social media and tag them on Twitter @bridportmuseum or Instagram @bridport_museum, using the hashtags #LoveMyObject and #TheRightStuff
Love My Object is part of the Museum’s community project ‘The Right Stuff’, which asks some tricky questions – Why do we have certain things? Should we have them? If not, where should they go? Find out more about the project by visiting their website www.bridportmuseum.co.uk.

more
Nathaniel Sesay, aka Mash P, was born in Taiama, Southern Sierra Leone. When he was nine years old he was captured by rebels and forced to fight in Sierra Leone’s brutal civil war. After the war, rejected by family, he lived on the streets of Freetown for 12 years
Mash took up photography in 2018 and began taking photographs on Bume Dirty Box, the biggest rubbish dump in Freetown where many families scrape an existence. He followed a young boy called Mamadu who was the same age as Mash was when he was captured. The images give an honest and authentic portrayal of life on the dump, not just the misery but also the joy.
He has had exhibitions in London, Manchester and Portland, USA.
Eight years ago Mash found the charity WAYout and recorded an album ‘Mr President’, playing a mixture of Afrobeat and dance hall. ‘Music brings me peace’, he says, and his music has become increasingly upbeat with dance music alongside the more serious tracks like ‘After the Jungle’ which features Frank Turner.
He now has a Global Talent Visa and 3-year Resident’s Permit to study and work in the UK. He wants to be accepted for his talent not rejected for his past.
You can support Mash P through his Patreon link here.

more
Robert’s new exhibition at Sou’-Sou’-West Gallery in Symondsbury is the result of five years of study, experimenting with different surfaces, grounds and mediums. Entitled ‘Reflections of Venice’, Robert showcases the culmination of many hours spent sketching and testing colours which would best represent the light and tones of Venice, and striving to capture the atmosphere of the city in a visually recognisable way, but in an abstract style.
With the use of strong black lines and a limited palette on a pure white gesso panel surface, Robert depicts the architecture, basilicas, and churches with their arches, domes and statues. The courtyards and alleyways are a striking feature, with their wells and washing strung between the buildings and over the canals, the bridges, working boats, gondolas, mooring poles, and of course, the titular reflections, mirroring the scene for twice the impact. The essence of city life in Venice is truly captured, evoking the festivals, parades of boats, the bustling waterways, masked and costumed people and cats sunning themselves in the windows. Visitors to the gallery will also be invited to view how this body of work developed. A selection of working drawings, sketches, sketch books, notes, colour charts and the testing out of differing mediums and surfaces will be displayed, making an interesting, insightful and very personal exhibition of Venice, combined with the educational side of Robert’s creative journey.

Malone has a wonderful apt for re-working classics as well as inducing quirky and original tales throughout his sets – his former band’s Bargirl predominatly sticks out in my mind, “we’ve all done it”. Adding to his impressive resume is also Hobo Jones and The Junkyard Dogs. Alongside his whimsical real life tales Davey also combines wit, charm and cheek through his often blunt lyrics.

Jim Reynolds is a guitarist and singer who writes and plays an eclectic mix of music. The individual pieces tap into blues, ragtime, rhythm and blues, music hall and folk traditions. Some are extremely sensitive songs about life, people and relationships, while others are tongue in cheek. His albums are also sprinkled with classics from the likes of J.J. UPCOMING COURSES!
Learn to dance the iconic movements of the 1920’s known as Charleston! During our courses we will look at the different styles of Charleston over the 1920’s, 30’s & 40’s, adding some vernacular/vintage Jazz movements and a little bit of history along the way.
Each week we will learn a piece of a routine, focusing on both technique and how to dance each movement. Every piece of choreography is led by the song to make sure we are looking and musicality and lyricality, however, our classes are anything but serious, we are there to have fun and learn to dance! Dancers of all (or no) experience are welcome!
