In this talk he will explore the stories from the Jurassic Coast and deep time that resonate in the 21st Century.

WATER CONFIDENCE is a vital life skill – living so close to the coast.

This 2 part course is an introduction to swimming, whilst building water confidence.

Have fun in the pool by moving around with a variety of swimming aids.

When four high-school kids discover an old video game console with a game they’ve never heard of, Jumanji, they are immediately drawn into the game’s jungle setting, literally becoming the avatars they chose.

The Winter’s Tale is Shakespeare’s great play of the irrational and inexplicable, illustrating how uncontrollable emotions can range across gender, country, class and age.

Its universe is full of monsters, gods and natural disasters with a colossal sweep that takes audiences from the stifling atmosphere of the Sicilian court to the unbuttoned joy of a Bohemian festival.

Staged at the beautiful and iconic Globe Theatre in London, this new production is directed by Blanche McIntyre and stars Will Keen (The Crown, Wolf Hall) as Leontes, Priyanga Burford(W1A, Marcella) as Hermione and Annette Badland(EastEnders, Father Brown) as Old Shepherd.

Faeland are a contemporary folk band from Bristol, UK. Fusing deep folk tradition and acoustic instrumentation, they bring their innovative and subtly experimental approach to contemporary music.

The band have recently recorded and released their debut album ‘All My Swim’ which is receiving support and acclaim from BBC 6 Music, Uncut Magazine, Shire Folk Magazine and a host of others.

Their first 2 singles and album have been supported by Tom Robinson and Gideon Coe of BBC 6 Music, BBC Introducingand BBC Scotland, to name a few.

Faeland features some of the South’s finest folk musicians, with singer Rebecca Nelson and guitarist/multi-instrumentalist Jacob Morrison at its songwriting and musical core.

The album is performed on an all-acoustic instrumental line up: guitars, beautiful vocals, eclectic percussion (water gourds, thimbles, candlesticks and even an old CD rack), cello, clarinet, double bass, violin, accordion and Celtic harp.

With nature and humanity’s relationship to the natural world being such a big inspiration for Faeland’s music, Jacob explains their unusual name –”we are named after Failand, a countryside village near us that connects us with the land around our home and our favourite woodland”

The spelling change to “Fae” hints at the magical/mystical/other as well as the transcendental nature of their music.

On the centenary of the end of First World War, Academy Award-winner Peter Jackson (The Lord of the Rings trilogy) presents an extraordinary new work showing the Great War as you have never seen it.

Using state of the art technology to restore original archival footage which is more than a 100-years old, Jackson brings to life the people who can best tell this story: the men who were there.

Driven by a personal interest in the First World War, Jackson sets out to bring to life the day-to-day experience of its soldiers. After months immersed in the BBC and Imperial War Museums’ archives, narratives and strategies on how to tell this story began to emerge for Jackson.

Using the voices of the men involved, the film explores the reality of war on the front line; their attitudes to the conflict; how they ate; slept and formed friendships, as well what their lives were like away from the trenches during their periods of downtime. Jackson and his team have used cutting edge techniques to make the images of a hundred years ago appear as if they were shot yesterday.

The transformation from black and white footage to colourised footage can be seen throughout the film revealing never before seen details. Reaching into the mists of time, Jackson aims to give these men voices, investigate the hopes and fears of the veterans, the humility and humanity that represented a generation changed forever by a global war.

The Show of Hands line-up of Steve Knightley, Phil Beer and Miranda Sykes looks a little different for their 2018 Joint Venture tour. Miranda and husband Dan are expecting their first baby in November, and so Cormac Byrne (legendary percussionist of Seth Lakeman Band fame) steps into the breach to complete the Show of Hands autumn trio and give it a fresh new sound. Expect the festival favourites along with songs from the bands upcoming album ‘Joint Venture’.

Norwich based folk trio Alden Patterson and Dashwood weave rich vocal harmonies, fiddle, dobro, guitar and mandolin around beautifully written original songs and melodies. The independently-released debut album ‘Call Me Home’ was written and produced at home in Norwich and is lovingly presented in attractive handmade covers, designed and hand-printed by the band.

Their music takes influence from folk traditions from both sides of the Atlantic with uplifting instrumentals and self-penned songs depicting tales of young travellers, sleepy seas and their affection for home.

This is a warm up gig ahead of a national tour.
