Russell Hornsby and Regina Hall excel as the parents attempting to shield their daughter from the dangers of racism while still preparing her for its grim realities.
George Tillman Jr. directs with style and verve, bringing the humour and tragedy of Angie Thomas’s powerful, best-selling YA novel to the screen in one of the most urgent movies of recent times.
