The two-day Disappearing Lines workshop brings to life
the craft of traditional boat building and the stories of
endangered boats.
Participants will try their hand at two key processes in
traditional boat building; the steam bending of oak and
copper riveting.
Through demonstration and tutoring each participant will
create their own miniature ‘ghost ship’– a skeletal,
sculptural form of a boat in steam bent oak embracing key
skills in boat building and symbolising endangered boats
that are disappearing from our shores.
Interwoven with the practical hands-on elements of the
workshop, Gail will engage with participants in more
detailed descriptions and discussion regarding the
construction of traditional boats and the stories of
endangered craft.
All materials, equipment and tools are provided
