This workshop will provide teens of 14+ with an understanding of the realities and practicalities of working as a writer in the publishing and television industries. how does a book get published? How does a story end up on screen? Participants will learn the various routes to getting a novel published and a script for television produced from someone who has experience across both industries. As well as learning about the script and book processes (and the professional terms for all stages of production), the workshop will cover the basics of good storytelling in scriptwriting and fiction.
Participants will be introduced to the idea of splitting a story into acts and how best to visually capture and convey a narrative. They will learn helpful idea-generating exercises and some of the tricks to creating believable characters. There will also be plenty of opportunities to ask questions about all aspects of pursuing a career as a writer.
