Bridport Choral Society was established around 1900 and at that time, boasted both a Choir and an Orchestra. It is still firmly placed in the Arts and Culture of Bridport.
We have around 50 members, with a fairly good representation in all four parts, but we are always happy to welcome new singers. We have, at the moment, a policy of no auditions for those wishing to join, but we do ask for enthusiasm and commitment to the Choir.
We meet on Mondays at 7.30 pm in the Bridport United Church Hall in East Street, with the autumn session commencing in early September and finishing with the Christmas Concert. The Spring session starts in early January and ends with the Spring Concert in May.
We have taken the view that, as there are a number of choirs dedicated solely to Classical music within the area, we should try to offer more middle of the road music, which is pleasurable both to audience and choir. Therefore our concerts cater for a range of tastes and our repertoire includes popular classics, traditional and popular songs, spirituals, and songs from the shows.
Kris Emmett joined us in September 2011 as Musical Director, bringing us energy, enthusiasm and fine musicianship.
Our Christmas Concert will be on Saturday 7 December, 7.30 pm at Bridport United Church.
